Sandwich with a twist

April 10, 2010

Category: Nutrition, Tips & tricks.

A simple sandwich with cheese gets boring after a while. But you can make it more appealing without all the extra calories. You can do this easily by using raw vegetables such as tomato, cucumber, sweet peppers, radish, carrot, lettuce or bean sprouts. Besides that you can vary endlessly with seasonings like pepper, salt, dried herbs, fresh herbs, pesto, ketchup or light mayo. You can also vary with fruits such as apple, banana, pear, strawberry and pineapple.

Slim but tasty variations:
- Ham with cheese, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and a sliced boiled egg
- Ham with cheese and pineapple (let the cheese melt under the grill)
- Ham with mustard
- Cheese with tomato and green pesto (let the cheese melt under the grill)
- Cheese with sambal, cucumber and tomato
- Cheese with mustard
- Roast beef with cheese, lettuce, cucumber, green pesto and pepper
- Roast beef with lettuce, light mayo and a sliced boiled egg
- Goat cheese with apple and honey
- Goat cheese with strawberries and mint leaves
- Peanut butter with banana
- Peanut butter with cucumber
- Canned tuna (water) with light mayo, cucumber and pepper
- Canned tuna (water) with light mayo and tomato
- Chicken with sweet pepper and chilli sauce
- Chicken with cucumber, tomato, low fat yoghurt and pepper
- Chicken with light mayo, tomato and pepper
- Cottage cheese with honey
- Tomato with cucumber, pepper and light mayo

Tip: If you use seasonings like mustard, pesto, chilli sauce or light mayo, make sure you’ll use a very thin layer. A thick layer will provide many more calories.
